Meet The GroundSystems Team

Our management team has been maintaining the landscapes for commercial properties in Cincinnati, Dayton and Northern Kentucky since the early ’80’s. We understand the demands of property management and determining our clients’ needs is second nature to us. A commitment to developing long-term relationships with our customers, vendors and employees allows us to provide excellent service and superior care.

Rachel Rorie
President & Chief Operating Officer

Rachel began working in the landscape industry as an administrator at GroundMasters in 2000. Since then, she has participated in nearly all aspects of a commercial landscaping company from administration to accounting, and she’s been a valuable resource for our sales and operations teams. As a founding member of the GroundSystems team, Rachel helped develop many of the systems and processes our company has in place today. As President, Rachel oversees our Sales, Operations and Accounting teams.

Mike Rorie
Executive Vice President

Mike began his career in the commercial grounds industry over three decades ago. He started his first company, GroundMasters, with one truck and grew it to a five city, regional platform serving 1200 customers before selling it to a national provider in 2006. As Executive Vice President, Mike resources the GroundSystems team and provides valuable insight and direction from his years in the industry. 

Steve Barhorst
Vice President Operations

Steve began his grounds management career in 1996 as a crew member at GroundMasters and worked his way up to branch manager. At GroundSystems, Steve oversees all aspects of performing and managing day-to-day operations. His goal is to ensure the GroundSystems team is always ready to provide the highest level of service possible. 

Kris Marsh
Vice President Accounting & Administration

Kris has over 20 years of accounting experience with the last 10 years being in the commercial grounds industry. Her career in the commercial grounds industry began in 2007 as a Regional Controller for a national provider. She joined the GroundSystems team in 2014 as Controller. In her role as Vice President of Finance & Administration, Kris manages all aspects of accounting and administration.

Gary Kuykendall
Regional Business Development Manager

Gary started his career in the landscape industry over 30 years ago as a Principal of GroundMasters. Since then he has lead and participated in all aspects of the industry, from mowing lawns and performing installation work, to designing GroundMasters’ client management software systems and overseeing their best in class customer service standards. Gary continues to apply his expertise to identify and deliver the best services and solutions to our clients as the leader of our sales and client management staff.

Chris Hayes
Regional Snow Manager

Chris began his career in the design build landscape arena in 1982 when he founded Landscape Creations. In 1998 Landscape Creations was acquired by GroundMasters and Chris assumed the role of VP of Operations. Today at GroundSystems Chris works closely with each of the branch leadership teams to ensure they have necessary resources such as labor, materials and equipment to meet the needs of our valued customers.

Mark McClanahan
Corporate Projects Manager

Mark has over 40 years of experience in the landscape industry. He worked for several landscape companies before joining GroundMasters in 1999 as an Account Manager. Mark eventually became a Branch Manager serving in this role in two different locations. Mark joined GroundSystems in 2017 and works with the corporate team on systems and procedures.

Shannon Noe
Corporate Estimator

Shannon started his career in the landscape industry in 2005 and has excelled in many positions along the way. Starting as a crew member he has since served as field supervisor, operations manager, irrigation technician, account manager, and sales manager. As an estimator at GroundSystems, Shannon is distinguished by his passion for business, his focus on collaborative team-building, and his commitment to meeting customer and market demands.

Joni Adams
Corporate Administrator

Joni began her landscape career over 25 years ago as a field employee with a small landscape company, quickly moving into the Office Manager role. When the company closed, she joined the GroundMasters team in 2005 as an Administrator. Her focus at GroundSystems is to provide internal support to the accounting and management teams. Joni also works with our vendors and customers to make sure that no detail is overlooked.

Mike Graves
Regional Account Manager

Mike started his green industry career in Northern Kentucky in the early eighties before joining the GroundMasters team in 1999. Mike has worked in nearly every position at a grounds management company, starting out as a crew foreman and most recently as an account manager. He believes trust, honesty and quality are the foundations of a great working relationship and uses these principles to deliver excellent results to our clients. 

Jeff Fox
Branch Manager-Dayton

Jeff began his career in the green industry in 1992 as a residential landscape contractor. He transitioned to commercial grounds management in 2010 and joined the GroundSystems team in 2014. As a Branch Manager, Jeff manages production crews and strives to provide customers with the highest quality service in the industry.

Juan Cabrera
Operations Manager-Dayton

Juan started his career in the landscape industry as a crew member at GroundSystems in 2014.  He graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelors Degree in Human Resources.  Juan worked as a supervisor for DHL Supply Chain before returning to GroundSystems as an Operations Manager in 2017.  He strives to maximize productivity and deliver excellent customer service.

Jason Edwards
Business Development Manager-Dayton

Jason started his landscape career in 2002 while working for a property maintenance company.  In 2007 he started his own company which remained in operation until 2014.  He then decided to join another landscape company in Dayton as an Account Manager.  He has been involved in many different areas of the landscape industry from mowing to Account Management and Sales.  In 2018, Jason joined the  GroundSystems team and is dedicated to creating long lasting relationships with our clients by providing them with the highest quality service.

Jim Bishop
Branch Manager-Cincinnati

Jim began his career in the green industry with GroundMasters in 1988 as a crew member.  Jim served in various roles until he reached the Branch Manager position. At GroundSystems, Jim oversees the daily operations in the Cincinnati Market to ensure that our team produces quality service in a safe and professional manner.

Joe Rucker
Account Manager-Cincinnati

Joe started his career in commercial landscaping by working in the golf course industry. Joe joined GroundMasters in 1999 as an Account Manager. Joe brings a wealth of knowledge to our team from his diverse background, which includes forestry, turf management, and irrigation installation and design. In his current position at GroundSystems, he understands it’s quality and customer service first that makes the difference. Joe’s goal is to provide a level of service that exceeds customer expectations.

Joel Scott
Operations Manager-Cincinnati

Joel began his career in in the landscape industry in 1997 and decided to further his education by obtaining a degree in horticulture from Cincinnati State in 2002. After spending two years supervising and installing residential landscapes, he joined the GroundMasters team in 2004 as a Landscape Installation Foreman. Throughout his career, Joel has served in various roles in operations and customer service. Joel has been Landscape Industry Certified through NALP since 2005 and serves as a certification judge each year to help further the industry’s standards with future talent by testing candidates for certification. His passion and understanding of how a landscape is presented allows him to help our customers enhance their image.

Ken Brewer
Branch Manager-Northern Kentucky

Kenny began his green industry career over 30 years ago. He worked for several landscape companies prior to joining GroundMasters in 1996 as a landscape designer. Over the years, Kenny held many positions at GroundMasters in different departments, including Regional Manager. At GroundSystems, he serves as the Branch Manager of our Northern Kentucky Branch and oversees daily operations to ensure that our team works together to deliver exceptional results to our customers.

Sheila Dean
Branch Administrator-Northern Kentucky

Sheila began her experience as an office administrator in 1999.  She joined the landscape industry in 2016 as a member of the Perfection Landscaping & Design, Inc. team.  She became a part of the GroundSystems team in 2017 and is currently managing the administrative responsibilities for the Northern Kentucky branch.

Eric Edwards
Business Development Manager-Northern Kentucky

Eric developed a passion for the landscaping profession over two decades ago while working as a sales associate for a local nursery. In the spring of 1998, he started a company of his own. Perfection Landscaping & Design Inc. remained in operation until the fall of 2017 when he made the decision to join forces with GroundSystems, Inc. In a Business Development role for the Northern Kentucky branch, Eric’s priority is to build lasting relationships & ensure our customers receive the impeccable quality and service they have come to expect from the GroundSystems team.

Jay Witte
Account Manager-Northern Kentucky

Jay began his journey in the green industry over 20 years ago when he was hired as a lawn care applicator with GroundMasters. As an Account Manager with GroundSystems, he is responsible for building and strengthening relationships with past, current and future customers. His focus is to handle our priorities so our customers can handle theirs.

Jason Baldwin
Account Manager-Northern Kentucky

Jason started his career in the landscaping industry in 1996 as a laborer for a landscaping and nursery company. He quickly realized that this industry was his calling. Jason has worked in many roles in the industry from mowing grass to installing and managing large landscape projects. Jason’s energy and passion to keep lawns and landscapes looking spectacular is what continues to drive him today. Most recently Jason was the General Manager of a large landscape company in Northern Kentucky and became a member of the GroundSystems team through an acquisition. Jason is excited to continue providing outstanding customers service as a GroundSystems Account Manager.

Brian Floyd
Operations Manager-Northern Kentucky

Brian began his career in the landscaping industry in the mid 1990’s working for a small landscape company in his hometown.  After taking some time away from the industry, he began working in the green industry again in 2006 and served in various roles from Crew Member to Branch Manager.  As a member of the GroundSystems team, Brian utilizes his passion for safety and team building to deliver exceptional customer service.

Zach McGlone
Operations Manager-Northern Kentucky

Landscaping yards at a young age, Zach started his career in the green industry as a Grounds Crewman and eventually Grounds Supervisor for 6 years at a minor league baseball complex in Cincinnati, OH. While doing so, Zach decided to further his education and earn bachelor’s degrees in Organizational Leadership & Business Management through Northern Kentucky University. Trying to “stick to his roots”, Zach also worked in the dirt and landscape equipment insurance industry for 4 years as a Production Underwriter and Product Manager for the Specialty Equipment Services division of Great American Insurance Group. Following his time at Great American, Zach worked in the artificial turf industry as the Maintenance Program Manager & Warranty Coordinator for 2 years with The Motz Group. Zach started his career with GroundSystems in 2018, as an Operations Manager at the Hebron, KY branch.

Brian Scott
Operations Manager-Northern Kentucky

Brian remembers climbing trees as a child and trying to get to the tops. It’s only fitting that his career in the green industry began in the tree care sector where he learned to safely climb, trim, and remove trees. Brian transitioned to the landscape installation part of the green industry in 2007.  He worked as a Field Supervisor and an Enhancement Manager for other companies within the industry before joining the GroundSystems team in 2017. Brian is an Enhancements Operations Manager for our Northern Kentucky Branch. He is responsible for managing and training multiple crews, scheduling, ordering material, and ensuring that our customers receive quality landscape installations.
